Dental Crowns in Dubai

At Alma Polyclinic in Jumeirah, Dubai, we provide personalised dental crown treatment to restore and protect damaged, weakened or heavily restored teeth. A dental crown can help improve the strength, function, shape and appearance of a tooth while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

Depending on your dental condition, bite and aesthetic needs, your dentist may recommend different crown materials, including zirconia, ceramic or porcelain-based restorations. Each crown is planned individually to achieve a comfortable fit and a natural-looking result.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a custom-made restoration that covers the visible part of a tooth. It is commonly used when a tooth has been weakened by extensive decay, a large filling, fracture, wear or root canal treatment.

The crown helps protect the remaining tooth structure and restore normal chewing function. It can also improve the shape, colour and overall appearance of a tooth when clinically appropriate.

Who May Need a Dental Crown?

Your dentist may recommend a dental crown after examining your tooth and assessing the amount of healthy structure that remains. Dental crowns may be suitable in situations such as:

  • Broken or cracked teeth: To protect and restore a weakened tooth.
  • Large fillings or extensive decay: When there is not enough healthy tooth structure for a conventional filling.
  • After root canal treatment: To help protect certain root canal-treated teeth from fracture.
  • Severely worn teeth: To restore lost tooth structure and improve function.
  • Misshapen or heavily discoloured teeth: When a crown is considered the most appropriate restorative option.
  • Dental implants: A crown can form the visible replacement tooth attached to a dental implant.
  • Dental bridges: Crowns may be used as part of a bridge to replace missing teeth.

A clinical examination is necessary to determine whether a crown is the right treatment for your tooth or whether another option, such as an onlay, veneer or filling, may preserve more natural tooth structure.

Joy Afif-Matheson who works at Alma Dental Clinic has been my dentist these past 20 years and I would not go to any other dentist except Joy – for me personally she is the BEST. She is gentle and one never feels any pain or discomfort when she works on your teeth and asks one to let her know the minute one feels any discomfort. More importantly for me, Joy continuously studies to keep up to date with the latest developments in dentistry and dental health and its impact one your health as a whole. Joy had to leave the UAE for a short while and onher reyutn started working ar Alma Dental clinic. In her absence I went through a series of really bad dentistry experiences. When she returned I was absolutely overjoyed and registerd at Alma Dental clinic immediately. The other aspect I appreciate about Joy is that she only works on issues that are absolutely necessary and does not go looking to do unnecessary dental work.. In Joy’s absence I went to a dental clinic who would have had me come back multiple times even though I felt I had no real issues and so thankfully ignored them. If a filling is starting to look a bit old, Joy tells you and then says it can wait until the next visit. All aspects of fillings and root canals and other procedures are discussed in detail before she takes any action. This to me is really important. Alma Dental Clinic has a wonderful, serene and very professional atmosphere. I highly recommend Alma Dental clnic if your are looking for excellence.

Owner's reply

We know how stressful bad dental experiences can be, so hearing how relieved you were upon her return to the UAE and how quickly you joined us at Alma Polyclinic means the world to us. Dr. Joy’s commitment to lifelong learning, conservative, evidence-based care, and absolute patient comfort are core values we cherish deeply. Thank you for your kind words about our clinic’s atmosphere and for placing your smile in our hands. We look forward to taking care of you for many more years to come.

Benefits of Dental Crowns in Dubai

Dental crowns are used to restore teeth that have been weakened, damaged or heavily restored.
When recommended after a dental examination, a crown can help protect the remaining tooth
structure, improve chewing function and restore the natural shape and appearance of the tooth.

  • Protect a Weakened Tooth:
A dental crown can cover and support a tooth that has been weakened by a large filling,
fracture, extensive wear or other structural damage.
  • Restore Chewing Function:
By rebuilding the shape and strength of a damaged tooth, a crown can help restore more
    comfortable biting and chewing.
  • Support Teeth After Root Canal Treatment:
In certain cases, especially when a tooth has lost a significant amount of structure,
a crown may be recommended after root canal treatment to reduce the risk of fracture.
  • Improve Tooth Shape and Appearance:
Crowns can restore teeth that are severely worn, misshapen or discoloured when a full-coverage
    restoration is considered appropriate.
  • Create a Natural-Looking Restoration:
Modern ceramic and zirconia crowns can be customised to match the colour, shape and proportions
    of the surrounding teeth.
  • Restore a Dental Implant:
A custom dental crown can be attached to a dental implant to replace the visible part of a
    missing tooth.
  • Long-Term Restorative Solution:
With appropriate oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups and proper care, dental crowns can
provide durable restoration for many patients.

The benefits and expected lifespan of a dental crown depend on the condition of the underlying
tooth, the crown material, bite forces and oral hygiene. Your dentist will recommend the most
appropriate restoration after examining your teeth and bite.

Implant-supported dental crown treatment in Dubai

Dental Crowns After Root Canal Treatment

After root canal treatment, some teeth may need additional protection because they have lost a significant amount of natural tooth structure due to decay, previous fillings or the treatment itself. In these cases, your dentist may recommend a dental crown to help protect the remaining tooth and restore normal biting and chewing function.

A crown is not automatically required after every root canal. The decision depends on factors such as which tooth has been treated, how much healthy tooth structure remains, the condition of the tooth and the forces placed on it during chewing.

Why Might a Crown Be Recommended After a Root Canal?

  • Protect the remaining tooth: A crown can provide coverage and support when a significant amount of tooth structure has been lost.
  • Reduce the risk of fracture: Heavily restored teeth, particularly back teeth exposed to stronger chewing forces, may benefit from additional protection.
  • Restore function: A custom-made crown can rebuild the shape of the tooth and help restore comfortable biting and chewing.
  • Restore appearance: When necessary, a tooth-coloured crown can also improve the shape and appearance of the treated tooth.

At Alma Polyclinic in Dubai, the tooth is assessed after root canal treatment to determine whether a crown or another type of restoration is the most appropriate option. The treatment plan is based on the condition of the individual tooth rather than using the same approach for every patient.

Types of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are available in different materials, and each option has its own advantages in terms of strength, appearance and suitability for different teeth. At Alma Polyclinic in Dubai, the type of crown is selected according to the condition and location of the tooth, your bite, aesthetic expectations and treatment needs.

Zirconia Crowns

Zirconia crowns combine high strength with a tooth-coloured appearance. They are commonly considered for teeth that need a durable restoration and can be used in different areas of the mouth depending on the individual case.

E-max Crowns

E-max crowns are made from lithium disilicate ceramic and are known for their natural appearance and translucency. They may be considered when aesthetics are particularly important, especially for visible teeth.

Porcelain and Ceramic Crowns

Porcelain and ceramic crowns can be customised to closely match the colour and appearance of surrounding natural teeth. They are often considered for patients who prioritise a natural-looking restoration.

Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) Crowns

PFM crowns combine a metal substructure with an outer porcelain layer. They provide structural strength while maintaining a tooth-coloured appearance and may be recommended depending on the location of the tooth and clinical requirements.

Metal and Gold Crowns

Metal crowns are highly durable and can withstand significant chewing forces. Because their metallic appearance is more noticeable, they are generally considered for less visible areas when clinically appropriate.

Which Dental Crown Is Right for You?

There is no single crown material that is best for every patient. Your dentist will consider the location of the tooth, remaining tooth structure, bite forces, aesthetic requirements and other clinical factors before recommending the most suitable option.

The material selected can also affect the cost of a dental crown in Dubai. During your consultation at Alma Polyclinic, your dentist can explain the suitable options for your tooth and the differences between the available materials.

Dental Crown Procedure in Dubai

Getting a dental crown in Dubai begins with a detailed examination of the tooth, surrounding gums and bite. At Alma Polyclinic, your dentist will assess the condition of the tooth and determine whether a crown is the most appropriate restoration before starting treatment.

What to Expect During Dental Crown Treatment

  1. Dental Examination:
Your dentist examines the tooth and may recommend dental X-rays or other diagnostic assessments when clinically necessary.
  2. Tooth Preparation:
Damaged or decayed areas are treated as required, and the tooth is carefully prepared to create sufficient space for the crown.
  3. Impression or Digital Scan:
An impression or digital scan is taken to record the prepared tooth, surrounding teeth and bite so the crown can be made to fit accurately.
  4. Temporary Crown:
When the final crown is produced by a dental laboratory, a temporary crown may be placed to protect the prepared tooth between appointments.
  5. Final Crown Placement:
Once the permanent crown is ready, your dentist checks its fit, bite, shape and appearance before securely bonding or cementing it in place.

The exact number of appointments and treatment steps can vary depending on the condition of the tooth, the crown material selected and whether additional dental treatment is required.

Dental crown cost in Dubai for porcelain and ceramic crowns
Dental Crown Cost in Dubai

The dental crown cost in Dubai can vary depending on several factors, including the type of crown material, the condition of the tooth, the complexity of the treatment and whether any additional dental procedures are required before the crown is placed.

At Alma Polyclinic, the final treatment cost is confirmed after a dental examination because every case has different restorative needs. Your dentist will assess the tooth, discuss the suitable crown options and explain the expected treatment plan before proceeding.

What Affects the Price of a Dental Crown?

  • Crown Material:
Zirconia, E-max, porcelain, ceramic and metal-based crowns can have different costs depending on their properties and laboratory requirements.
  • Condition of the Tooth:
A tooth with extensive damage, decay or a large existing filling may require additional treatment before crown placement.
  • Root Canal Treatment:
If root canal treatment is required before the crown, this will affect the total treatment cost.
  • Additional Restorative Work:
In some cases, the tooth may need a build-up or other restorative preparation before the final crown can be fitted.
  • Laboratory and Customisation:
The design, shade matching and fabrication of a custom crown can also influence the overall price.

If you are comparing the dental crown cost in UAE or looking for an
affordable dental crown in Dubai, it is important to compare more than price alone.
The condition of the tooth, suitable material, treatment planning and quality of the final restoration
all play an important role in the long-term outcome.

A consultation at Alma Polyclinic can provide you with a personalised treatment plan and a clear estimate based on your specific dental needs.

Dental crown aftercare and maintenance in Dubai
How to Care for Your Dental Crown

Proper care can help protect your dental crown and the natural tooth underneath it. Although crowns are designed to be durable, their lifespan depends on oral hygiene, bite forces, crown material and regular dental care.

Tips to Help Your Dental Crown Last Longer

  • Brush and Floss Daily:
Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and clean carefully around the crown to reduce plaque buildup and protect the surrounding gum tissue.
  • Keep Regular Dental Check-Ups:
Routine dental visits allow your dentist to monitor the crown, the tooth underneath it and the surrounding gums for any early signs of problems.
  • Avoid Biting Very Hard Objects:
Try not to chew ice, hard sweets, pens or other hard objects that may increase the risk of chipping or damaging the crown.
  • Protect Your Teeth If You Grind or Clench:
If you grind your teeth at night or clench your jaw, your dentist may recommend a custom night guard to reduce excessive pressure on the crown.
  • Do Not Use Your Teeth as Tools:
Avoid using your teeth to open packaging or bite objects, as this can damage both natural teeth and dental restorations.
  • Contact Your Dentist If Something Feels Different:
If your crown becomes loose, feels uncomfortable, causes pain or changes your bite, arrange a dental assessment rather than waiting for the problem to worsen.

How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?

The lifespan of a dental crown varies from patient to patient. Factors such as the crown material, oral hygiene, tooth condition, bite forces and regular dental maintenance all affect how long a crown may remain functional.

Regular check-ups at Alma Polyclinic in Dubai allow your dentist to monitor the condition of your crown and identify any concerns with the restoration or underlying tooth at an early stage.

Temporary and permanent dental crowns during crown treatment in Dubai
Temporary vs Permanent Dental Crowns

During some dental crown treatments, a temporary crown may be placed while the final restoration is being prepared. Temporary and permanent crowns serve different purposes, and understanding the difference can help you know what to expect during treatment.

What Is a Temporary Dental Crown?

A temporary crown is used to protect the prepared tooth between appointments while the final crown is being fabricated. It helps cover the tooth, maintain appearance and support normal function during the waiting period.

Because temporary crowns are designed for short-term use, they are usually made from materials that are easier to adjust and remove when the permanent crown is ready.

What Is a Permanent Dental Crown?

A permanent dental crown is custom-made to fit your prepared tooth and bite. Depending on the treatment plan, it may be made from zirconia, E-max, ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal or another suitable material.

Before placement, your dentist checks the crown’s fit, bite, shape and appearance. Once the final crown is suitable, it is securely bonded or cemented to the tooth.

How Long Do You Wear a Temporary Crown?

The amount of time a temporary crown is worn depends on how the final restoration is being produced and whether any additional treatment is required. Your dentist will explain the expected timeline for your individual case.

How Should You Care for a Temporary Crown?

  • Avoid chewing very hard or sticky foods on the temporary crown.
  • Brush normally but clean carefully around the restoration.
  • Follow your dentist’s instructions when flossing around the temporary crown.
  • Contact the clinic if the crown becomes loose, breaks or causes persistent discomfort.

At Alma Polyclinic in Dubai, each stage of dental crown treatment is planned according to the condition of the tooth, the selected crown material and the patient’s individual restorative needs.
